The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society is committed to protecting your privacy. We collect, store and use your information so that we can communicate with you and so that we can continue to develop and market our vision to be the global voice for whales and dolphins.

Collection

WDCS collects information from supporters from a number of sources, including, but not limited to:

• Forms filled in as a result of visiting this website and affiliate WDCS websites. This information is obtained from activities such as adopting a dolphin online, sending a protest email or filling in a volunteer enquiry form online.
• Forms filled in and mailed to the WDCS administration office.
• Surveys, promotional brochures, competitions, raffles and other documents filled in as a result of a campaigning or fundraising activity.
• Information gained from personal communication, including phone calls. The kind of information we collect and store will depend on the type of WDCS initiative you support or enquire about.

Personal information collected by WDCS may include:

• Your contact information - name, address, email address and phone numbers
• Your date of birth and gender
• Your employer details, if you participate in work place giving
• Your WDCS supporter number
• Your bank account or credit card details
• A history of your donations, correspondences and other interactions with WDCS Australia

Use and disclosure

• Process your donation or purchase and provide receipts
• Provide you with information on how your donation is used
• Provide you with confirmation of your donation and advise you of any changes to its status in relation to your adopt a dolphin or orca support
• Confirm your identity when you make enquiries about your donation
• Communicate with you about the work that WDCS is undertaking
• Address any feedback or complaints you may have
• Answer your queries
• Develop, improve and market our range of campaigns, issues and giving programs which we believe may be of interest to you.

Your personal information may be disclosed to WDCS suppliers, such as:

• Website usage analysis
• Call centre operations
• Payment of donations or products and services.

We take reasonable steps to ensure these external organisations are contractually bound to privacy and confidentiality obligations in relation to your personal information and that it is only used for the specific purpose for which we supply it.

• An authorised legal representative nominated by you

We do not sell or pass on your contact information for to other organizations for commercial reasons.

We aim to maintain accurate and up-to-date information. Requests to update your information, such as new postal or email addresses, are most welcome.

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure personal information.

We will keep and use your information after you have provided a donation, purchased a product or service or interacted in some other way with WDCS. How long we hold and use the information after you have ceased donating or interacting with us will depend on the type of interaction you had with WDCS and any requirements under law.

Openness

Your are welcome to contact us, during South Australian office hours, to discuss this policy or information held about you. Identification may be sought for enquiries that require personal information to be disclosed.

Identifiers

Third party identifiers are not collected, used or stored by WDCS.

Anonymity

You may remain anonymous when entering into a transaction with WDCS, although to do so will prevent us from:

• Issuing you a receipt for any donations or payments made
• Effectively dealing with any complaints that you may lodge

Transborder data flows

Identifying information is stored and retained in Australia. On occasion, information may be forwarded to WDCS offices overseas, if this is deemed to be the most appropriate course of action to service your request or to co-ordinate a campaign.

Sensitive information

Sensitive information, such as a health condition, is generally not collected or stored by WDCS Australia. The exception to this is if you are a volunteer with WDCS, and the collection of such information assists us with the appropriate co-ordination and management of your duties. We only collect this information with your consent.

Online information

WDCS takes internet security seriously. WDCS employs security measures that seek to protect your privacy.
